Live in Riverdale

Riverdale was a small rural community until the Grand Trunk Railway brought industry and employment opportunities in the 1850s. The labourers that arrive built the first homes in Riverdale, just south of the railway tracks. Riverdale's development expanded in 1918 when the Prince Edward Viaduct was built, which gave Riverdale an important link to the City of Toronto west of the Don River and marked a coming of age for this popular neighbourhood. Riverdale's two- and three-storey Victorian houses were built largely between 1880 and 1924 and are shaded by some of the tallest trees in the city. The houses in South Riverdale are, on average, smaller and less expensive than those in North Riverdale and have seen an increase in popularity in recent years from growing families seeking out more affordable prices.
